The New Cherry Crest Elementary

September 7, 2012 Leave a comment

The New Cherry Crest Elementary!

The 85,000 square foot new Cherry Crest is twice the size of the original school it replaced. Due to developing technology, it’s also the most energy-efficient building in the district. Classrooms fill the main wing, with the additional wing housing the gym, cafeteria, library and administrative offices.

Some exciting features of the new Cherry Crest include:

Classroom technology: In addition to SMART board technology, all classrooms are equipped with at least six computer workstations. There are additional learning spaces outside the classrooms.

Solar energy use: 434 roof-top solar panels will offset about 10% of the buildings total annual energy use.

Geo-thermal heating and cooling system: 85 wells placed 300 feet below the sand playfield will generate all heating and cooling for the building, as well as domestic hot water. No fossil fuels are burned on site.

Green spaces: Rooftop gardens and outdoor courtyards are not only living classrooms, but also assist with storm water cleanup.

Natural setting: The two-story building with plentiful windows and glass is nestled in the surrounding woods, with classrooms looking toward green spaces. A water feature in the courtyard, lush plants and pathways around the building add to the serene environment.

Jason Cook and Gavin where out for a walk in the Whispering Heights neighborhood of Bellevue when a deer stumbled upon them! I asked Gavin if he said hi to him, but Gavin said the deer does not know his name and just said “hi kid”. it was very cold and icy out there, so be safe! Jason and Gavin decided to head back inside because those branches can be dangerous! It has been a while since we posted a video, so stay tuned for more! This fun Snow-mageddon we are having in Bellevue is crazy!

Today BellevueBuzz.com to a road trip to Remlinger Farm!  But it is not in Bellevue you say?  True, but it is just a short drive for lots of family fun!  Remlinger Farm has a lot to offer the whole family.  They are a working farm with a pumpkin patch in the fall, a strawberry field in the summer, and part amusement park most of the year!  You can even have a birthday party for your young ones, or a corporate picnic party for the office!  BellevueBuzz.com enjoyed the rollercoaster, climbing wall, pony rides, and the famous train ride!  Hosted by Jason E. Cook and another special appearance by Gavin, we hope this video entices you to visit Remlinger Farm in Carnation!

why you need an emergency kit

Why you need an emergency kit

By jasoncook • April 1st, 2011

If the daily news of natural disasters around the globe is causing you to think about a possible crisis hitting close to home, then take the next step and act. Most of us believe that disasters are not likely to occur until they happen, leaving no time for preparation or forethought.

The site ready.gov recommends that a household should plan to stock supplies that will sustain the family for at least 3 days. While ready-made kits are available for purchase, Wisebread contributor Andrea Dickson recommends making your own, especially since most households already have a number of the essentials:

  • Water–one gallon per person per day for 3 days, for drinking and sanitation
  • Food–3-day supply of non-perishables and can opener
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and batteries
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle
  • Dust mask
  • Wrench or pliers for utility shut-off
  • Towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger

The site also lists additional items you may want to include like cash, prescription meds, and copies of important documents (insurance papers and family records). When your kit is ready, identify a meeting place for separated family members and how key information will be communicated to outside persons (like extended family). Being prepared for an emergency will give you peace of mind now and a secure plan in the unlikely event of a disaster.
